Biographies

Professor Doug McEvoy leads a strong and growing research team at the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health, which has had continuous NHMRC funding since 1994. He has particularly strong experience in clinical sleep research and multicentre trials. His interests range from respiratory/sleep physiology to trials of new diagnostic, treatment and management methods for sleep apnea, to sleep deprivation/alcohol interactions and effects on driving.

Dr Nick Antic is a level 2 Sleep and Respiratory Medicine physician, employed as a Staff Specialist in Sleep and Respiratory Medicine at AISH and the Flinders Medical Centre, visiting Ashford Hospital and Darwin Private Hospital. He is currently a CI on 3 NH&MRC funded research projects. His major research interest is in simplified diagnostic and management strategies for OSA and linking these strategies to Primary Care. He is involved in other research projects looking at Central Sleep Apnea prevalence on CPAP and as a result of opiates, driving and OSA and OSA prevalence amongst patients with implantable defibrillators, as well as being a contributor to the international SAVE project led by AISH. He is also Chairman of the ASA Clinical Committee.

Associate Professor Peter Catcheside leads the physiology research program at the Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health. He has a strong track record in respiratory/sleep physiology with particular focus on pathophysiological mechanisms underlying obstructive sleep apnoea, respiratory load sensations, cardio-respiratory responses to brief arousals from sleep, and hypoxic suppression of respiratory sensations and reflexes.

Dr Stuart Baulk is currently running a 3 year NHMRC funded project to investigate driving impairment in Obstructive Sleep Apnoea. Stuart has experience in laboratory, field and simulator studies focussing on fatigue and shiftwork, driver sleepiness, sleep deprivation and countermeasures for tired drivers. This project is a collboration with the Centre for Sleep Research at the University of South Australia. Stuart is a member of the European Sleep Research Society (ESRS), and the Australasian Sleep Association (ASA). He is also a member of the ASA research committee.
