What can my patient expect?
The Adelaide Institute for Sleep Health provides high quality specialist care for patients throughout the diagnostic and treatment process.
Through our clinical sleep service, patients are reviewed by our specialist staff and tests as well as treatment are arranged as needed. If the referral suggests that OSA is highly likely the patient may have an overnight sleep study prior to the specialist appointment in order to facilitate effective therapy as soon as possible.
In some cases, particularly where there is a high likelihood of OSA and for patients living in the country, a sleep study may be arranged during which diagnostic information is collected and CPAP is applied on the same night (split study).
More complicated patients (e.g. motor neurone disease) may need admission to the sleep/respiratory ward at the Repatriation General Hospital for inpatient assessment and treatment.
During day and overnight studies patients are cared for and monitored throughout their stay by our highly trained technical staff in our sleep laboratory. Facilities are available for carers to stay overnight by prior arrangement.
Waiting Times
Currently the waiting time for a public patient appointment at the RGH is approximately 4-6 months. We have provisions for urgent referrals on a case-by-case basis. Private patients attending at the Ashford Hospital will have minimal waiting times of around 2-3 weeks.
